In class, we have been reading Why My Mother Can't Speak English and while reading it, I didn't really understand the mentality of the mother. If she's going to move to another country for a better life and if she ever wants to be successful, she's going to have to know the first language of that country, or life would be really hard because you wouldn't understand anybody. She should have just listened to what her son wanted. The mother felt like learning English would take away her traditional Chinese culture inside her but in reality, it would help her a lot in the long run.
